Technical details...

...observed by the big kid before the little kids got to play with the machinery at the Christmas event yesterday.

First, here's a better view of the NSU "Kettenkrad" motorcycle, which could go places no wheeled motorcycle could go...

And then here's the Volkswagen "Schwimmwagen," a floating version of the VW "Kublewagen" (behind), waterproof and complete with propeller...

And, finally, here's the mighty one-cylinder engine of the 1886 Benz, see while turning at 250 rpm. That's why you can't see the spokes of the horizontal flywheel...

I love this stuff, too. And I even cadged a ride on one of the host's vehicles.

I've never grown up, you know.

Cool machinery, scrib. And, growing up is overrated, anyway!

Waterproof and a propeller?! That's exactly what I need here in Charleston. Put me down for one. In blue camouflage please.

Joan -- Sadly, the Schwimmwagen seems to have gone out of production in 1945....

Black Cabs are still being built, but I doubt they float very well.

Really neat pictures. :)

No, they don't. I'll buy a Smart car though if they can promise it floats ::. Can you picture those little things on a flooding street? Joan

I remember seeing a shwimmwagen or something similar when I was a little boy in Colorado. Haven't seen one since until this.
