I was reluctant to post this...

...because the pain remains too fresh, too intense.

The worst thing about Christmas:

For the first time in 18 years, I will be absolutely, 100% alone. Hobbes won't be here to help me maintain even a minimal facade of happiness...

Obviously, he knew nothing about Christmas. What he did know was he got gifts (catnip mice, noisy toys he could chase around the place, shiny things he could stare at), a helping of fresh-cooked turkey, ham, or roast beef, and a whole lot of attention.

In return, he loved me. That was as good a present as any I've ever received.

I can't go on with this. But I had to say it.

((((Scribbs)))) I know it has to be terribly hard. My dad just lost his cat and he is so heartbroken. Sorry about Hobbes. :(

You never really get over your cats. At least, I know that I don't.

What a beauty. Similar colour as the cat I used to have.
I miss him.

I don't think he was completely clueless about the concept of Christmas - cats are smart - they just don't care.
I'm sure he knew it was special because of the importance you placed on the time period. And the gifts might have given it away too.

I have a photo or two of the dog I gave up (Alec). It's hard to look at them.

Not a bad life being a loved cat. Mark me down for my next lifetime.

My hostess last night had two little kittens she adopted. Such sweeties. Are you ready to consider another cat yet?

Joan -- it's more a question of finding a kittycat who wants to be with me.

The few that have expressed willingness to be here -- and that includes a couple of dogs, too -- are hooked up with other humans.

Even as Hobbes and I were happy together, I missed those who came before. It never bothered him.

Hugs you, MrScribbler. I know what pain it is losing a pet and/or a friend especially at Christmas time...and our pets are like humans, I know that for sure! Arfy was his name. Sunny
