...led me to take a look at the clever Japanese car I'm driving right now. One of its features is a camera, mounted in the rear bumper, that is activated whenever the car is shifted into Reverse...
I immediately said to myself "Self, you may have found a new Art Form!" Of course what it mostly sees is cars behind it...
...and shadows on the pavement...
...on rare occasions, an actual person...
But what it mostly sees is cars...
Okay, so it's a very minor "Art Form."
And it really bugs people when they see the car's back-up lights coming on for no apparent reason....
But hey, Michaelangelo didn't crank out the Sistine Chapel ceiling as his first project, did he?

i need one of those in my car
I would be happy with a higher level of depth perception. Can't tell how close I am with the truck unless I stick my head out the door when I back up. I'm working on trusting the mirrors, though.
I recently drove a Lexus that had that camera system, and it just didn't seem natural to use. My truck has the radar-type sensor that emits a beeping sound to tell you when you are getting close to someting. It works well...I wish Audi had a similar system. :)
I like it. The only worry is that the more sophisticated cars become the more expensive. I'm hoping the ones with good structure and powerplant will build basic cheap models ac and a maybe some kind of sounf sytem and that's it. for five thousand dollars. Is that asking too much?
Definitely art. Especially if you take sequence while you back over a lawnmower, bicycle or smash into the car behind you. Performance art
This one ain't cheap, HarpO, topping out at close to $60K.
That, plus it not being mine, calmed down my sudden impulse to do some "performance art" as you suggest!
