...when Associated Press did its latest poll. This time, the subject was 2007, and AP reports that "...seventy-two percent of Americans feel good about what 2007 will bring for the country, and an even larger 89 percent are optimistic about the new year for themselves and their families...."
That's good to know. Really.
Nothing would make me happier than to think that 89 out of 100 Americans are going to have a better life by the end of next year. Well, I'd be happier still if all of those I care for are about to have the best 12 months of their lives.
And yeah, I admit I wish I wasn't among the 11 percent.
It would be very difficult for the next year to top this one misery-wise. I messed up plenty of times, and when I wasn't busy fouling the nest there were people willing and eager to do it for me.
You'd probably find them among the 89 percent, too.

oh, and didn't we plan on a trip to Disneyland? ... ta dee ta dumm
This is going to be your yo-yo year...you know, you were down in '06, now you'll be up in '07. Work with me here, friend. :)
I feel much the same way as you do, MrScribbler. I hardly think 2007 will be much better than 2006.
There's a problem with polls: they are almost always strued by posing the questions in such a way that the answers will invariably come out the way - whoever is paying the pollsters - want it come out. I have seen hundreds of polls on AOL that both had questions and answers constructed in such a way that - well, you either agreed with them or you strayed so far from reality, the negative answer was "unthinkable". I don't respond to those polls anymore, and so I have felt since I first started seeing the surgence of polling popularity coming out - whenever that was - like the early 80's?

I'm trying to ignore what everyone else predicts and make my own 2007 the best year I've had this century. (Wish me luck, I'm gonna need it)!
MsPajama -- You won't need luck. You have charm. And talent. And are creative.
You have good looks, too.
Things are gonna turn around for you Scribs. They are. I hope at this time next year you are reflecting on many changes in your life....good ones. You are a wonderful person and you deserve all the happiness in the world.

I'm with you. I'm not optimistic but I sure hope we're both wrong.
It sounds as if the vast majority are happily marching into the big brother/slave state, as far as their optimisim for the country. On the personal level, I think it is good that people are pleased with their prospects. If they had asked me a few days ago, I'd be among the happy mass. Today, no.
