This magnificent 1936 Delahaye has a custom body by Figoni et Falaschi. For a time, the French were the most flamboyant of car designers, and the F&F designs of the 1930s led the way. This particular car, though rather restrained when compared to some of its contemporaries, is incredibly elegant. It impressed me when I first saw it some time ago, and impressed the judges sufficiently to be named "Best of Show."
For a few hours on Sunday, being surrounded by so much beauty let me enjoy the illusion that all was right with the world....

Wow, what a fabulous series of posts.
It is so nice to see design when it was done by humans. A lot of artistry married to function there.
Just when I think only the Italians make art of everything, I see something like that Rolls with the Merlin, and as strange as it looks, it has appeal. I would love to take that on the next road trip, provided a mechanic fallowed me in a motorhome.
I'm really wondering now about the businesz of your hydrated friendz.

You'd want a tanker full of gasoline to follow you as well, HO'F. I'm told the car's range on a full tank can be measured in minutes....

justfly -- government car-safety rules would ban such ornaments as the Packard "cormorant." They would be a hazard to anyone hit by the car, you know....

The Delahaye deserved to be best in show. I like the GT MKIV, but it's no GT40 :-)
I prefer GT-40s as well, dal, but there were no examples at the show, alas.
