The black fog.

It's called depression, and I sensed the first wispy tendrils on the horizon several days ago. Now it's here, wrapped around me.

Aside from the usual symptoms -- lethargy, unwillingness to think about things I need to think about -- work, for example -- and a simultaneous desire for solitude and for someone close enough to reach out to, the worst thing is that...

...I just deleted seven paragraphs, 'cause I don't want to say what I said.

Even though I meant every word, and each was, at least to me, true and accurate.

I've tried several proven methods to ward it off. All failed. So I guess I'll just sit here and wait for it to pass.

Feeling depressed is a real drag, Jim.

Sorry you are going through a bad time. Good thoughts are being sent your way. Take care. Go for a long walk.

You need to get one of those sponsors to buy you a ticket to somewhere my direction. Then you could give 'em half a day and a thousand words, and we could meet up for a multi-day road trip afterwards. You could regale me with car stories I could listen like an awe struck teenager in the presence of Carroll Shelby. OK, so maybe I exaggerate. Hope you get to feeling better, friend. :)

When I'm depressed, sitting still is the one thing I can't do. Let's hope this passes quickly.

Still don't know who is this "Jim", but I agree that depression is no picnic. I hope it fades. The black fog is no fun at all.

John -- "Jim" isn't anyone. He/it is just a mythical person whose name occasionally appeared at the end of sentences spoken by 1930s jazz musicians, Lenny Bruce, and others.

The methods aren't proven if they don't work.

John -- I figured you had the "Jim" bit...others don't, though.

Tough to be an aging hipster.

Depression comes and goes in my life. Now my doc thinks I need HGH! If he has a miracle cure, that would be great!
