Out of the night...

...came a strange apparition as I was walking. An elderly gentleman wearing a deerstalker hat and a quilted coat and walking a small, energetic dog came toward me. It was tugging at the leash, wandering, sniffing, acting the way dogs do when they have so many smells to smell and dark places ahead to check out and hardly have enough time for them all.

Suddenly, from out of the shadows, an orange cat appeared. He ran toward the dog, bounced around it, ran ahead, slowed down for the pooch to catch up.

The man looked across the street at me, smiled, and said "he likes to walk with us. The other cat stays home, but this one has to come along."

I stood and watched them as they went into the night. The dog was trotting along happily as the cat frolicked beside him.

For a few moments, I was happy, too.

I hope I see this unlikely threesome again some night.

The rain is past now, though we are told there will be storms passing through until Saturday. Not sure I believe it.

What a fun sight!
I have known one other cat that went on family walks with the dog.
It's so un-cat-like though, do you suppose they lose their Feline Union card if they are found-out? (Interesting that the acronym for that union would be FU :)

kit -- Now, an hour later, I wonder if I really saw them or if it was just my mind cheering me up.

The cat didn't seem the union-member type, somehow. A little orange free-spirit, he was...the sort that might look into your face and yawn if you said "FU" to him!

The picture of this event in my head couldn't be any more divine. I love life's welcomed habbit of allowing us a glimps of such joy when we need it the most~!

That is so cool. When I lived at the farm I gre up on I would go for walks with my dogs and there was always at lease one of my cats tagging along through the fields and across the creeks. I miss that.

Woofy has an absolutely wonderful spread on his journal recently of his walk in the woods by a stream with his 2 cats following.

I don't know if Barq would walk with me, but there are times when he follows me around the apartment.

I would have liked to see that, too.

dal -- I'm hoping the image of those three stays with me always. It was beyond "special." It was magic.
