Mr Scribbler's Orphanage!

Since my former journal-home (hereinafter referred to as UrinalSpace) seems to have suffered some sort of terminal cyber-meltdown, all refugees from there are welcome to use the comments section of this post to send out distress messages, announce their replacement sites or simply wander around peeping piteously...

Or you can go here to do the same in a more organized forum!

I'll be passing out thin blankets and cups of tepid, watery gruel ASAP!

PARENTHETICAL UPDATE-Y STUFF: Dagnabit, people! If you do have journals elsewhere, or are starting them, will you please leave a message so I can find all y'all? I want to read you, too, you know....

Hope I hear from someone soon. I feel lost without all of you. Thanks for the orphanage.

thanks for the pimping Scribby.... as you noticed, a few have checked in there. Wizardress will report in later... I sent off an email to Dylan (JS one-man admin), but I think he is probably too busy getting things back up to answer.
I miss so many great features here... especially the homepage with up-dated journals and comments.. :-(

MrScribbler said...

You're welcome here any time, Roz!

Perhaps a suggestion to blogger's admins would get them started on a "real" homepage, birdie. Wouldn't take much to make this place very home-y.

Hi MrScribbler. Thanks for pointing us to the forum. I'm really glad that I have my old blogger blog that I kept up with. I'm lucky that I don't need to back up anything..

By the way, why did you choose blogger over wordpress?

MrScribbler said...

Indoloony -- I came here because Whatsername suggested it!

I don't know anything about blog-sites, I admit. I fell into JS by accident, too.

If there are better sites, I guess someone will point them out to me....

I liked JS's features, but was disenchanted by the admin. Mainly, I just wanted a place to write and get feedback....

Hey I got lot's of journals or blogs as soraxtm but the journalspace one has the best community(or the only one where I get commnents).
I hope it comes back up soon.

MrScribbler said...

I got many more comments and visitors at JS, too, soraxtm....

I'd still like to find a "home" that offers more of a "community" without some of the less-desirable factors at JS.

MrScribbler said...

See how easy it is! A "community" is people, after all...not just one website with a temperamental admin and shaky equipment!

It's good to see my friends showing up here....

Hey Scribbs! I'm trying to set up a blog here, but I'm finding it difficult to navigate this site. How do you find any journals on here?

MrScribbler said...

Gill -- I'm not sure how to "find" people here...this isn't as you've noticed, quite as "community"-oriented as JS. They just have to find you, I guess...unless I'm missing some easy method that's right in front of me!

MrScribbler said...

The welcome mat's out for all y'all, "O!"

Doug said...

JSers (myself included) are throwing themselves at any site where they can leave a comment, it seems. Think of the total time online that we collectively spend (not gonna say waste) on a weekend.

MrScribbler said...

Jeez, "DAL," that doesn't say much for the value of my pathetic journal, does it? "...throwing themselves at any site where they can leave a comment..."

I'm hurt!!!

I want to stay at that strictly modern hotel california.

Good thing is I imagine you check in but not out.

Hook me up with that. I think I finally found home.

I'm pretty sure my theory about the js admin being a high school kid with all the hardware in the bedroom was correct,
as was the theory that his dad got mad and shot the server with a speargun.
His mom of course is helping get it fixed and is making dad do penance by sleeping on the couch only after doing yard work all day.
It was just a little family issue.

MrScribbler said...

It does feel like the last stop on a long, downhill road, HarpO....

I think the last time it was "strictly modern" was somewhere around 1940. Hard to believe there's anything out there older than me....

MrScribbler said...

j-f -- at least for the moment, there is no JS!

If the admin there could make up with Whatser, I'd be back pronto. But the way he treated her incensed me.

Whatsername again....? said...

I would reccomend LiveJournal to a lot of you if you find Blogger hard to navigate.

It is much less community oriented than a ot of you are used to here, and you make yourself known by using the Next Blog button and commenting on other sites.

Tags also help, techorati, bloglines and other sites let people know when you update and making it easier to find you.

But really, overall I would say check out LJ, there is a lot goin on over there!

And JF, thank you for thinkin of me =) I definitely wont be writing on JS anymore, and I am still waiting on an apology (I got an explanation but no 'I'm sorry' which I gladly passed on, but that's all in the past so whatever, i won't hold my breath. It's over.) but I'll come visit you when the bloody site goes back up!

Whatsername again....? said...

I mean Blogger is less community...

whoops =)

I may start a LJ just for the creative aspect, there are a lot of talented graphics designers and stuff like that and it seems relatively easy to find them.

But yeah...here's to hopin ya'll can get back to JS...

Doug said...

Ha ha. I meant no disrespect, my left coast friend. I'm jus' sayin', y'know? I hope Westy doesn't go over her bandwidth limit. Lost JS souls are now responsible for 2/3 of the member count, and over 1/6 of the post count since this morning.

MrScribbler said...

A likely story, DAL....

Dorrie said...

a likely story? I went over my bandwidth once with only the many pictures of my homepage .. I ended up changing provider for that homepage, keeping my other homepage, with the forum, on the first provider...

but it's been so much fun! if I get a notice, I'll ask for a temporary increase, if possible... sigh

MrScribbler said...

birdie -- the "likely story" was DAL's first line, not his comment about your forum eating up bandwidth...I'm sure, based on what I've seen there, that your new flood of "commenters" are running up the numbers big-time!

I bet you and Whatser are having the last laugh now. ;-) JS is FUBAR'd. I have a MySpace account and I hate it!! Can I move in with you guys?? *bats eyes and makes a sad kitty face*

MrScribbler said...

Tigeress, honey, I'm not laughing and -- though I wouldn't put words in her mouth -- I'm sure Whatser isn't either.

JS is/was a good place, and is/was filled with good people. That Whatser (and I) had a bad experience there is irrelevant, really.

I hope it gets repaired. And when it does, I'll be back there to read you!

Of course I'll read you wherever else you might set up shop, too!

MrScribbler said...

BTW, Tigeress...MySpace is really fubar, if you ask me. Can't leave comments there without joining! So start a journal here to tide you over 'til JS is back up....

MrScribbler said...

Just for that, Tigeress, two cups of gruel!

Whatsername again....? said...

nah, i think it really sucks that JS is down =(

a lot of heart and soul put into the blogs there...and knowing they might go kaput foreva...LAME!!

I am not a big fan of Myspace. Too many freaks.

MrScribbler said...

Be that as it may...if JS really is kaput, I hope the refugees will set up shop and stay in touch. It's what you say, not where you say it!

MrScribbler said...

blogspot notifies me when I get comments, Tigeress! Don't remember how I got it to do that....check the fAQ stuff on your dashboard page, or "settings," or whatever.

MrScribbler said...

So good to see you, Sunny!

Whatsername again....? said...

tigress, yes indeed i will help you!

to be notified of comments just go to your dashboard, click settings, and click comments, you can customise it from there!

You can do favorites here?

I must have missed that option. I hope to have a link to everyone here and hopefully others as they appear.
Unless by some outside chance JS is not totally history.
Even then might be good to have it set.

Whatsername again....? said...

you can have a favourites type list either by giong in and linking manually in your blog OR using a Blogroll http://blogrolling.com/

which is super easy.

MrScribbler said...

I've been thinking about the "community" aspect, o, and I have the beginnings of an idea. Will say more when I see if it would fly....

Whatsername again....? said...

you can make a blog and add contributors, so others can post to it, so yeah like a community. :)

MrScribbler said...

Dat be what I had in my li'l mind, Whatser!

You a psychic, too?
